The sculptures are an exciting expression of life and culture that connect with people across Australia and Internationally. The art is powerful because it is innovative and inventive just like the artists who make it. It embraces ‘both ways’ and then redefines it all over again so that it has a new voice, a voice from resilient Town Camp people who are able to respond and adapt to extraordinary challenges, daily.

Artists also work with inks on paper to create beautiful images that speak of the soft sculptures that the artists are known for.

Soft sculptures and etchings from Yarrenyty Arltere are held in major public and private collections across Australia. Artists have also been selected for and won major art awards. 

In 2015 Yarrenyty Arltere Artists began their blue and white project. Experimenting with cyanotype, an old photographic technique the artists developed a new colour pallet to use as their base material in soft sculpture, apparel,jewellery and limited edition prints. Beautiful blues, created by exposure to the sun, have allowed the artists to continue to experiment with innovative ways of expression.

The centre was developed by the community in 2000 to respond to the very serious social problems being faced by families. Prior to the centre opening the community was crippled by these problems; YALC has made a significant difference to people’s lives.

The introduction of the Yarrenyty Arltere Learning Centre as an intergenerational learning and community centre located within a town camp, has proven to be a particularly effective early intervention and community development initiative. Such a model supports community ownership and control and ensures that services and programs are immediate, relevant and accessible.

Limited edition prints, created, resolved and editioned on site have allowed artists to celebrate their stories. In a media rich in technique, skill, colour and innovation artists work intensely for one to two weeks a year to execute prints that reflect the energy and creativity of these town camp artists lives.
